Birch Aquarium

Even before we had a place to live, we made our way to the Birch Aquarium. It's on campus and perfect for kids EJ's age. We made sure we were there in time for shark feeding but it wasn't like "shark week" on the Discovery Channel, they simply put a fish on a stick and fed the sharks. Not so exciting but we had a fun day.

These enormous statues are at the entrance of the park. Here's EJ pretending to be shark food.

This was one of the original submarines used to study marine life. UCSD is home to the world-renowned Scripps Institute of Oceanography.

Yes, the ocean view was spectacular! You could see far up and down the coast and they had binoculars for whale and dolphin watching. Here EJ is playing with a rubber starfish but he got to pet a real one too.
